Lingle releases $1.3 million for asbestos removal

Governor Linda Linglereleased $1,330,000 yesterday for asbestos removal at Kaimuki High School and Hokulani Elementary School on O'ahu.

"This project will make Kaimuki High School and Hokulani Elementary School safer for students, staff, faculty and the public and are part of our Administration's commitment to invest in schools across the state," Lingle said in a released statement.

Of the funding, $700,000 will be used for the removal of asbestos from ceilings at Kaimuki High School. The remaining $630,000 will fund asbestos removal from ceilings at Hokulani Elementary School, which is located near the University of Hawai'i-M?noa campus.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2008 and be completed in July 2008.
