Preps: Waiakea, Mililani in lead at state bowling

The Mililani High School boys and Waiakea High School girls lead the team standings after the first day of the Billy Tees/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state bowling championships at Hilo Lanes on the Big Island.

Mililani leads the boys standings at 5,718, followed by second-place Kalani at 5,623 following six games today.

Daron Sugiyama of Konawaena moved up from second place into the lead after the morning session's first three games. Sugiyama has knocked down 1,219 pins. Casey Shinshiro of Waiakea is second at 1,197, followed by Justin Kanda of Roosevelt at 1,193.

The Waiakea girls lead at 5,258, followed by Mililani at 5,241.

Diana Ishida of Mililani is in first place after knocking down 1,151 pins. Britney Uyeda is second at 1,140, followed by Kapolei's Raelena Mattos at 1,139.

The tournament concludes with three games tomorrow.
