VILLAGE PARK — The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office this morning identified a 14-year-old boy killed in a car crash last night in Village Park as Juanito Omnes Jr., of the Kunia area.

A 22-year-old man and two other boys were injured in the single-car accident, reported at 10:31 p.m. on Anonui Street near the Puia intersection.

Police said the man was reportedly driving a black 1995 Honda Prelude northeast on Anonui at a high speed when it crossed the center line and struck a fire hydrant and utility pole. Police are investigating whether the accident involved racing.

The driver, who is reportedly from the Kunia area, and a 13-year-old boy, whose residence has yet to be released, were listed in critical condition this morning at The Queen's Medical Center. A 12-year-old boy from Waipahu was listed in serious condition at Queen's.

Omnes was pronounced dead at the scene, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for Honolulu Emergency Services.

Both the driver and Omnes, who was seated next to the driver, were wearing seat belts, police said. Neither of the other boys, in the backseat at the time of the accident, was wearing a seat belt. The 12-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle, officials said.

Police said it's possible that the Prelude was racing a maroon Honda at the time of the crash.

Roads in the area were wet from rain, officials said. It is not known at this time whether alcohol was involved in the accident.

The traffic fatality marks the 53rd on O'ahu this year compared to 79 at the same time last year.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the accident to contact CrimeStoppers or HPD's Vehicular Homicide Division.
