Hawaii NAACP to sponsor forum tied to 'Dog' incident

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i NAACP will host a public forum at 4 p.m. Sunday in response to racial slurs made by television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman.

The forum will be held at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3950 Payne Circle, just off Nimitz Road near Honolulu International Airport.

Local civil rights activists, social and fraternal organizations and other community leaders are expected to be in attendance. Members of the public are also encouraged to attend.

Among the topics to be discussed: causes and consequences of inappropriate language and behavior; subtle racism and accountability; media influences and profiling; and moving forward.

Chapman, star of A&E's hit reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," apologized Wednesday shortly after The National Enquirer posted on its Web site a five-minute clip of a conversation in which he repeatedly used the n-word.

A&E has suspended production of the series, pending an inquiry. Network officials have said they take the matter very seriously.

For more information on the NAACP forum, contact Alphonso Braggs, president of the Honolulu chapter, at 783-8969.
