The Hawai'i State Art Museum celebrates its fifth anniversary tonight with the opening of the new exhibition "Uncommon Objects" and a Live from the Lawn performance by Kenny Endo and the Taiko Center of the Pacific.

The exhibition showcases 40 years of art from the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts' Art in Public Places collection, which includes work by Satoru Abe, Michael Tom, Frank Sheriff and Toshiko Takaezu. The show is divided into five sections: Functional beauty, symbolic functionalism, aesthetic experimentation, transcending boundaries and inspired by place.

Beautifully designed, the show is a walk through Hawai'i's art history, with everything from exquisite koa bowls to glass blowing to elaborate sculptures.

The event is from 5 to 9 p.m.

If you're hungry, the acclaimed Downtown@HiSAM cafe will be open for dinner.
