Leilehua High takes boys cross country championship

Leilehua High School today became the first public high school since 1982 to win the boys high school cross country title by taking the top two positions at the Honolulu Marathon/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state championships at Kapalua Village Course on Maui.

Leilehua junior Bryce Jenkins defended his title with a time of 16:07:95 on the 3-mile course. Teammate Paul Williams Jr. finished second and three other teammates finished in the top 20 to help the Mules win with 37 points.

Kamehameha, the defending state champion, finished second in the team standings with 99 points and 'Iolani finished third with 116. Kamehameha had won eight state titles since 1997.

Radford was the last public high school to win the championship in 1982.
