Ajimine, HBA boys repeat as state bowling champions

Kalani High School's Dara Ajimine and the Hawai'i Baptist boys bowling team defended their individual and team titles at the Billy Tees/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state bowling championships at Hilo Lanes on the Big Island today.

Ajimine edged Pearl City's Jordeen Koizumi by one pin to repeat as the girls champion. Ajimine, a junior, knocked down 1,747 pins to Koizumi's 1,746. She is the third girl to win two titles.

Mililani won the girls team championship with a total of 7,998. Kalani was second at 7,905. The Trojans last won in 2005.

The HBA boys, behind three top 10 finishers, won its second straight team title and third since 2004, finishing at 8,467. Mililani was second at 8,435. The Eagles are the first team to repeat as team champions since 'Aiea won from 1998 to 2000.

Justin Kanda of Roosevelt claimed top honors, knocking down 1,817 pins. Daron Sugiyama of Konawaena was the runner-up at 1,796.
