Some of Hawai'i's most prominent artists will show their work alongside some of Hawai'i's most luxurious merchandise as 2100 Kalakaua pairs up with The Fine Art Associates in an unusual exhibition format.

The showcase will provide featured artists with elegant venues to show new works to a Waikiki audience of locals and visitors. The work will be on view in the shopping center's luxe boutiques for a week, beginning Sunday.

Featured artists and their exhibit locations: Frank Sheriff, Tiffany & Co.; Rick Mills, Coach; Alan Leitner, Yves Saint Laurent; George Newton, Chanel; John Tanji Koga, Gucci; Daven Hee, Tod's; Tracy Gunn, Hugo Boss.

JUNGLE GEMS JOINS FIRST FRIDAY

The jewelry and mineral specimen store Jungle Gems (12 S. King St., between Nu'uanu Avenue and Bethel Street, 545-4202), which recently moved to Chinatown, is joining in on the First Friday festivities. The shop will hold a trunk show featuring Starborn Creations jewelry designs from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Founded by German-born jeweler Arne Christophersen, whose jewelry designs have been showcased in European galleries, Starborn Creations jewelry is designed in its Kaua'i design studio. The one-of-a-kind pieces feature rare stones and free-form shapes.

'KANANI' LIP GLOSS PREMIERES

QVC beauty diva and Bare Escentuals CEO Leslie Blodgett is in Honolulu to unveil an Island-inspired lip gloss, "Kanani" from Bare Escentuals, available exclusively at Sephora Ala Moana today. Sephora's new holiday items, highlighting the latest colors, skin care products and fragrances—will also be on display.

"Kanani," meaning "beautiful island girl," was named by one of Sephora's employees at Ala Moana. Only 1,000 units will be available until February 2008, when the lip gloss rolls out at all Sephora locations. "Kanani" is the newest product in the line of Bare Escentuals' Buxom Lips polishes, which include vitamins and collagen-boosting ingredients.

Macy's Ala Moana would like you to know that comfortable shoes need not be bland. From 1 to 4 p.m. tomorrow in the Women's Shoes department, shoes by leading designers such as SAS, Born, Merrell, Ecco and Clarks will be on display, while massages, soothing music and refreshments are offered. ETHEL DESAUSSURE DESIGNS ON VIEW

Honolulu fashionistas from the 1950s will probably remember the name Ethel deSaussure. An expert designer and seamstress who made custom clothes for Mrs. Walt Disney, she opened her own shop in Honolulu in 1952. She later married Harold Guyer in Hilo.

Recently deSaussure's nieces Diane Okubo and Doreen Shiraki gave a collection of their aunt's designs to the UH Costume Collection. The special creations will be on public view from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., from Tuesday through Nov. 15. To make viewing easier, the show will also be open from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 11, since parking is free and easy on Sundays. Look for them in Miller Hall, Room 111, at UH-Manoa.
