Police seize car in Kailua hit-and-run

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu police have recovered a vehicle suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a 35-year-old visitor in critical condition.

Police traffic investigators said today they had seized a white 1995 Toyota multi-purpose vehicle as part of the investigation. They would not release further details about the car or its owner.

Last night, police said they were seeking a similar vehicle after the woman was struck as she walked her bicycle in a marked crosswalk at Hamakua Drive and Aoloa Street in Kailua.

The vehicle, which was believed to be speeding and to have sustained damage to its front end, left the scene of the accident without stopping, police said.

Witnesses said the area of the accident is in the middle of a busy commercial district in which cars frequently speed by.
