Woman critical after Kailua hit-and-run

Advertiser Staff

Police were seeking the public's help in finding a hit-and-run driver who struck a woman pedestrian in Kailua Friday.

Police said the 35-year-old woman, a tourist, was walking her bicycle in a marked crosswalk at Hamakua Drive and Aoloa Street about 1:45 Friday afternoon when she was struck by a light-colored Toyota sport utility vehicle.

Police traffic investigators believe speeding was a factor in the case.

The vehicle sped off on Hamakua Drive toward Enchanted Lake.

The victim was reported in critical condition Friday night.

Police asked anyone who saw the accident to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
