Threat of heavy showers looming across state

Advertiser Staff

A flash-flood watch remains in effect for all islands. A low-pressure area will approach the state from the north this weekend and slowly drift west of Kauai by early in the new week, bringing unsettled weather and the potential for heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

Light breezes will allow only isolated showers this morning, but afternoon sea breezes will produce clouds and heavy showers over interior sections, forecasters said.

More widespread rain is expected to begin over the western part of the state tonight and continue moving east over the rest of the island chain into early next week.

A drier and more stable trade wind pattern is expected to return by the middle of the new work week.

Here's what to expect this weekend:

Today, scattered showers, mainly after noon. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. North wind around 5 mph becoming southwest. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
