A 50-year-old woman was killed tonight when the car she was riding in overturned about 9 p.m. near Hale'iwa, police said. One other person was injured in the crash.

The one-car accident occurred near the intersection of the Joseph P. Leong and Kamehameha highways near Weed Circle, said Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the city's Emergency Services department.

Firefighters responding to the crash reported the woman was dead at the scene, Cheplic said. She had to be extricated from the overturned car on the highway.

The second person was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital in stable condition, Cheplic said.

Honolulu police traffic investigators did not immediately have details of how the accident happened.
