Sensley drafted by NBA league

Former University of Hawai'i star Julian Sensley was drafted yesterday in the third round by the Colorado 14ers in the NBA Development League draft.

Sensley played three seasons for UH from 2003-04 to 2005-06. He was the 29th player taken overall.

Colorado is affiliated with the Denver Nuggets, New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors.

Training camps for the 14-team league open Nov. 11 and the D-League regular season begins Nov. 23.


BASEBALL

BEACHBOYS, SHARKS WIN

Kenichi Matsuoka and Jared Lansford teamed on an eight-hitter as the Waikiki BeachBoys beat the North Shore Honu, 4-0, last night in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park.

Matsuoka (1-0) allowed five hits while striking out seven and walking one over six innings. Lansford permitted three hits with two strikeouts and no walks over the final three innings as the BeachBoys improved to 14-14.

Jeff Kindel, Matt Inouye and Jose Coronado each had a double for Waikiki.

Masahiro Nagata and Jeramy Laster each had two hits for North Shore (19-8).

Elsewhere, Tyler Flowers and Jason Place each hit three-run homers as Honolulu rallied past West Oahu, 9-5, at Wong Stadium in Hilo.

Kyler Burke and Miguel Abreu each had three hits for the Sharks (13-14-1), who trailed 5-0 after three innings.

Russell Mitchell had three RBIs and Ian Gac hit his league-leading seventh homer of the season for the CaneFires (8-18-1).

HPU MEN TIE LEADERS

Jim Terry's goal in the 60th minute helped Hawai'i Pacific tie conference leader Grand Canyon, 1-1, yesterday after two overtimes of a Pacific West Conference men's game at Atherton Field.

Akihide Adachi and Michael Decaires assisted on the goal for HPU, which finished the season 6-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the PacWest. HPU goalie Mike King made seven saves, including one on a penalty kick with seconds left in the second overtime.

Albert Escovar scored for Grand Canyon (11-4-5, 8-0-2).

Elsewhere in the PacWest:

  • Vanessa Young scored two goals as Grand Canyon (5-13-2, 5-6-1) rolled to a 2-0 victory over HPU (3-15, 2-10) in a women's game.

  • Jill Haar scored two goals as host Brigham Young-Hawai'i (13-6-1, 10-2) posted a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame de Namur (7-12-1, 6-6) in a women's game.

  • Andres Caballero's goal in the second overtime lifted Notre Dame de Namur (10-9-1, 6-4) to a 2-1 victory over host Brigham Young-Hawai'i (9-10, 5-5) in a men's game.
