Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews have restored power to the 1,400 Hawai'i Kai residents who were without electricity for more than an hour.

The power went out at 10:54 a.m. and was restored at 12:15 p.m. The outage affected parts of Hawai'i Kai, including a shopping center.

During the outage, Safeway escorted shoppers in a few at a time into the darkened store.

"The cause is unknown at this time," said Darren Pai, HECO spokesman.

Also without power were 50 customers in the Waimanalo area near the old Kalaniana'ole Highway area.
