'Joy Luck Club' readers at State Library on Wednesdays

Guest readers of the "Joy Luck Club" Adult Story Program are scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in November at the Hawaii State Library in downtown Honolulu.

Admission is free.

i Nov. 14, Vivian Aiona, wife of Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, Jr., will share the spotlight with Byrde Cestare, Executive Director, Friends of the Library of Hawaii

i Nov. 21, Noe Tanigawa, Hawaii Public Radio's arts and culture reporter

"The Joy Luck Club" is told through the words and lives of four Chinese immigrant mothers and their very westernized daughters.

This program is part of The Big Read in Hawaii, a statewide celebration of special events through December 2007, which began in September.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Big Read in Hawaii is coordinated by the Hawaii Capital Cultural District and its partner affiliates, the Office of the Governor, Hawaii Council for the Humanities, the Manoa Foundation, State Dept. of Education, and the Hawaii State Public Library System. Additional support has been provided by the State Dept. of Human Services and the Friends of the Library of Hawaii.
