Hawaii ranks as third-healthiest state in the nation

Advertiser Staff

A new study ranks Hawai'i as the third-healthiest state in the nation, trailing only Vermont and Minnesota.

The report by the United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association and the Partnership for Prevention shows overall there was a decline in the health of the nation as rates of obesity, uninsured people and children living in poverty increased.

The report listed Hawai'i's strengths as including low rates of uninsured, preventable hospitalization, cardiovascular deaths and cancer deaths.

It listed as challenges high rates of binge drinking and a high incidence of infectious disease.
