Maui skateboard park closed 2 weeks for ramp repairs

Advertiser Staff

The skateboard park at Kalama Park will be closed today through Nov. 21 for ramp repairs needed to keep the facility safe, according to a notice issued by the Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Repairs will address damage to the "Skatelite" surface, and metal flashing at ramp joints.

To ensure the closure period is kept to a minimum, members from two South Maui parks crews will team up to conduct the repairs and build a temporary scaffolding to access to damaged areas.

"The two-week closure will allow us to make necessary repairs to maintain the facility's safety for the skateboarders who utilize the park," Parks Director Tamara Horcajo said in the notice.
