Big Island firefighters rescue three lost hikers

Three women who lost their way while hiking Captains Drive Trail on the Big Island were found by rescue personnel about three-quarters of a mile off of the trail last night, firefighters on the Big Island said.The women were in Fern Forest and the end of the Captains Drive Trail. Rescue units were called shortly after 7:30 p.m. They found the women before midnight and escorted them out, by foot, with no injuries.
Firefighters said the women were unfamiliar with the area and became disoriented upon nightfall when trying to return to their vehicle.
