Advertiser Staff

The Sierra Club's O'ahu Group this Friday will hold "Pa'ina O Ka Honua: A Dinner Party for the Earth," an annual fundraiser that celebrates the Sierra Club's achievements and raises funds for the group's local environmental programs.

The event, set for 6 to 9:30 p.m., will be held at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Pier 9 in Honolulu. It is open to the public. Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner Brother Noland will perform.

"Our pa'ina is the perfect opportunity to enjoy great local food, hear great music, and meet others who care about O'ahu's sustainability while supporting a great cause," said Elizabeth Dunne, coordinator of the event, in a news release. "The silent auction and "locally produced and grown" market will make early holiday shopping easy."

The Sierra Club lists the following recent achievements: advocating for the passage of the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2007, playing an instrumental role in the passage of Charter Amendments for curbside recycling, bike- and pedestrian- friendly streets, and land conservation, and winning lawsuits aimed at preventing urban sprawl and preserving open space. The Sierra Club is also dedicated to coordinating volunteers for service projects and to providing educational hikes and informative presentations on global climate change.
