Drowning suspected in Big Island death

Advertiser Staff

A man found floating face down in shallow water at Kahalu'u Beach on the Big Island yesterday afternoon is believed to have drowned.

Medics from the Big Island fire department responded to a possible drowning call shortly after noon yesterday and were on the scene within five minutes.

When rescue arrived, lifeguards had an unconscious male on a rescue board on the north end of the beach and were performing CPR but couldn't revive him.

Preliminary reports are that the man died of cardiac arrest from a possible drowning.

The victim's identity was unknown as of last night.
