NFL: RB Johnson's return vs. Denver 'highly unlikely'

Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is almost certain to miss Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos because of a foot injury.

Kansas City coach Herm Edwards said today it was "highly unlikely" the Pro Bowl player would play. Johnson hurt his right foot during the fourth quarter of last weekend's 33-22 loss to Green Bay.

Priest Holmes is expected to move up on the depth chart and will share time with rookie Kolby Smith. The 34-year-old Holmes has made an unexpected comeback after missing almost two years because of a spinal injury.

Even with Johnson, Kansas City is averaging only 79.5 yards on the ground, 30th in the league.
