Crews will start removing the sewer line running along Kalaniana'ole Highway tonight. The line, which sits above ground on the highway median between Hawai'i Loa Ridge and Niu Valley, was installed two years ago as an emergency bypass while crews installed a permanent sewer line underground. The new line was recently tested and is in use.

The removal project will take about a week, and work will be done from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

The left lane in each direction will be closed during the work. Drivers should anticipate delays and residents may hear heavy equipment noise.
