Ground was broken last week for a 4.4-acre, $10 million asphalt storage facility at Campbell Industrial Park that is expected to help the state avoid another asphalt shortage.

The plant's 12 million gallon storage capacity is expected to give the state an eight-month supply of asphalt when it is completed in 2009.

The plant is a project of GLP Asphalt LLC, a partnership of Grace Pacific Inc. and James W. Glover Construction.
