UH's Jones named to Bryant coach of year watch list

Hawai'i's June Jones today was one of 16 named to the watch list for the College Football Coach of the Year by the Paul "Bear" Bryant Awards committee.

The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists with the winner announced on Jan. 17, 2008.

Hawai'i is 8-0 this season and plays Fresno State Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

The winner of the Bryant College Coach of the Year is voted on by members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Others on the watch list are Michael Bellotti, Oregon; Rick Brooks, Kentucky; Lloyd Carr, Michigan; Randy Edsall, Connecticut; Dennis Erickson, Arizona State; Jeff Jagodzinski, Boston College; Mark Mangino, Kansas; Les Miles, LSU; Chris Petersen, Boise State; Gary Pinkel, Missouri; Mark Richt, Georgia; Rich Rodriguez, West Virginia; Nick Saban, Alabama; Bob Stoops, Oklahoma and Jim Tressel, Ohio State.

The Bryant Awards also raises funds for the American Heart Association.
