Hawaii treats needed for military holiday packages

Advertiser Staff

Friday is the last day to join Operation Homefront of Hawaii and Lex Brodie's and share a little Aloha with deployed troops. Organizers are collecting Hawaiian themed treats to ship overseas in care packages for the holiday season.

Boxes will be packed full of the donated treats midday Sunday at the Holy Family Catholic Academy and will be shipped out Tuesday.

The effort is meant to recognize the sacrifices military men and to bring a moment of joy to the troops. Items are now being collected at all five Lex Brodie's locations.

Needed are local coffee, macadamia nuts, hard candies (not chocolate), Hawaiian made cookies and other treats. In addition small mementos or touches of Hawaii are needed such as Hawaiian music CD's, books, dash board hula girls etc.

Operation Homefront and Lex Brodie's hope these care packages will remind our troops from Hawaii that their community Ohana stands behind them and appreciates their service to the nation.

All items collected will be shipped to Hawaiian military serving the nation in the Global War on Terror. To register a service member or military unit to receive packages please, contact Operation Homefront of Hawaii. The office phone number is (866) 569-9185 or Hawaii@operationhomefront.net.

To donate, stop by any of the five Lex Brodie's locations — Honolulu, Kaneohe, Waipahu, Kalihi or Pearlridge — or contact our the office to arrange a pickup. The collection boxes will be in stores until Nov. 9.
