Hawaii Girl Scouts honor Women of Distinction tonight

This year, Girl Scouts marks its 90th anniversary of Girl Scouting in Hawaii. Tonight, the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii honors 2007 Women of Distinction honorees: Mary Jane Connell, Partner, Carlsmith Ball LLP; Linda Fernandez, President/CEO, Fernandez Entertainment, Inc.; Carol Ai May, Vice President, City Mill Company, Ltd.; and Patricia Tam, Vice President, Halekulani Corporation.

"This year's honorees are not only leaders; they are trailblazers in Hawaii's business community. We are delighted to recognize them for exemplifying the courage, confidence and character that we are working to help Hawaii's girls to develop," said Gail Mukaihata Hannemann, Girl Scouts of Hawaii CEO, in a statement.

MARY JANE CONNELL, PARTNER, CARLSMITH BALL LLP (EST. 1857): A board member for the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii, Connell is one of Hawaii's top estate planning attorneys and a partner at Carlsmith Ball LLP. In addition to her work in the areas of estate planning, probate and charitable organizations, she co-authored two books dealing with the drafting of wills and trusts and estate planning tax issues.

LINDA FERNANDEZ, PRESIDENT/CEO, FERNANDEZ ENTERTAINMENT, INC. (EST. 1903): Fernandez is president and CEO of Fernandez Entertainment Inc., the parent company of several family-owned businesses. She has served as on the boards of the Amusement & Music Operators Association, the International Association for the Leisure & Entertainment Industry, and the Hawaii Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization.

CAROL AI MAY, VICE PRESIDENT, CITY MILL COMPANY, LTD. (EST. 1899): Ai May is actively involved as a community leader, serving on numerous boards for Child & Family Service, Retail Merchants of Hawai'i, Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i, and the University of Hawai`i Foundation. Her marketing and business leadership has earned her countless honors over the years, including the 2000 Small Business Hawai'i Success Story and 2005 YWCA Leader Lunch Honoree. She is also founder and designer of Red Box Jewelry.

PATRICIA TAM, VICE PRESIDENT, HALEKULANI CORPORATION (EST. 1907): Among Tam's many honors are being named "Independent Hotelier of the World" by Hotels, the leading publication of the worldwide hotel industry, and one of Travel Agent Magazine's "200 Most Powerful Women In Travel." For more than 20 years, Tam has been part of the Halekulani, working her way from assistant hotel manager to vice president. long the way, she assisted with the development of Halekulani's award-winning staff, led the Waikiki Parc Hotel to attain its first American Automobile Association's coveted Four-Diamond Award, and became the first female to hold the position of general manager of a Hawai'i hotel with a Five-Diamond rating from AAA.
