NFL: Titan CB Pacman's season suspension to stand

By Jim Wyatt
The Tennessean

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Pacman Jones won't be back with the Tennessee Titans, at least not this season.

The NFL made that clear yesterday, as commissioner Roger Goodell decided to let his seasonlong suspension of Jones stand. The cornerback had hoped to be reinstated after the Titans' 10th game.

"Commissioner Goodell notified Adam Jones that his suspension will remain unchanged and will continue through the remainder of the 2007 season," the NFL said in a statement. "He will be eligible to begin working out at the Titans' facility following the conclusion of the team's season."

Jones and his representatives asked for leniency during a meeting Friday with Goodell in New York. With two unresolved legal cases, however, the commissioner clearly wasn't going to change his mind.

The league suspended Jones in April for violating the league's conduct policy, at which time Goodell said he would review the case for possible early re-instatement.

Jones declined comment when reached on his cell phone last night.

The Titans weren't surprised by the NFL's decision. Coach Jeff Fisher declined to comment on Jones' long-term future with the team.

"We were informed during the off-season Pac would be suspended for the season," Fisher said. "When the suspension is lifted, we'll address the situation."
