NFL: Bill rookie tight end Schouman's season over

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Bills rookie tight end Derek Schouman's season ended today when he became the 10th player placed on Buffalo's injured reserve list.

The Bills could be down another reserve tight end for their game at Miami on Sunday after Matt Murphy hurt his left calf late in practice.

Coach Dick Jauron said tests revealed Schouman is expected to miss up to seven weeks after a serious high right ankle sprain in a 33-21 win over Cincinnati last weekend. The first of Buffalo's two seventh-round draft picks, Schouman had been a solid blocker in three games since being promoted from the practice squad.

He also had three catches for 10 yards.

The Bills (4-4) have been depleted since the season opener, when they lost three players to season-ending injuries. That includes tight end Kevin Everett, who sustained a severe neck injury and is continuing his rehab in Houston.

Jauron didn't anticipate the Bills adding a player this late in the week to take Schouman's place on the roster. The starter is Robert Royal.

Starting defensive end Aaron Schobel (groin) was added to the injury report after he was limited in practice. Jauron said he expects Schobel to play.

Receiver Roscoe Parrish missed his second straight practice after bruising his thigh last weekend. Jauron has not ruled out Parrish, saying he has made progress.
