Arbor Day celebration at Hale Koa hotel Saturday

Advertiser Staff

The Hale Koa hotel will celebrate Arbor Day with the planting of three trees at 9 a.m. Saturday on Bruyerres Field, along Maluhia Road, near Kalakaua.

The trees to be planted are: a kamani (Calophyllum inophyllum), a manele, or Hawaiian soapberry tree (Sapindus saponaria), and a thornless kiawe (Prosopis pallida), grown from Hale Koa's 100-year-old kiawe on the ilima lawn.

Cis Crocker George, president of Scenic Hawaii will speak, and Advertiser garden columnist Heidi Bornhorst will talk about the trees.
