8 tapped in Hawaiian community for DLNR panel

Gov. Linda Lingle has appointed eight people to serve on the 'Aha Kiole Advisory Committee, which helps form an 'aha moku council system that will serve as advisers to the Department of Land and Natural Resources on using ancient Hawaiian practices for the management of the state's natural resources.

Lingle selected the nominees from a list of names provided by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. They are:

  • Leslie A. Kuloloio, cultural consultant, Maui

  • Jean Ileialoha Keale Beniamina, associate professor, student services, Kaua'i Community College, Kaua'i

  • Winifred I. K. Basques, retired, Lana'i Community Hospital, Lana'i

  • Vanda Hanakahi, homemaker, community Hawaiian cultural specialist, Moloka'i

  • Timothy Paulokaleioku Bailey, biological science technician, Haleakala National Park, Maui

  • Sharon A. Pomroy, Lehua Mamo Flower Farm, Kaua'i

  • Hugh S. Lovell, agricultural research specialist, Research Corporation University of Hawai'i, Kamuela, Hawai'i

  • Charles William Kanaha Kapua, retired, Honolulu Police Department, O'ahu

    The advisory committee will submit a written interim report of its findings and recommendations no later than 20 days prior to the start of the next legislative session in January 2008.

    A final report must be submitted to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the start of the 2009 legislative session.
