So, grasshopper, if you think you are worthy, the University of Hawai'i's Academy for Creative Media will host open auditions later this month for Caine, the lead character in the upcoming big screen remake of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu."The open call will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in Crawford 115 on the university's Manoa campus. It will be held in conjunction with the academy's master class series.
Legendary Pictures, which will produce the film, is looking for a male actor of Asian or mixed Asian descent between the ages of 25 and 35.
Caine was the orphaned child of mixed parents who was raised by Shaolin monks in China in the mid-1800s. The character, played by David Carradine, wound up in the old U.S. west, where he preached non-violence while kicking the snot out of anyone who provoked him.
For the open call, you will need to deliver a one-minute monologue of your choosing in English, demonstrate your martial arts abilities for a minute and provide a head shot, resume and a demo reel. Lifting a cauldron full of hot coals with your forearms will not be required.
The academy doesn't want you to call them with questions instead, look for information at http://www.hawaii.edu/acm.
