UH guard Gibson out for basketball season opener

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i point guard Matt Gibson will miss tonight's season opener with an injured left knee, the school announced today.

Gibson, a senior, will sit out for precautionary reasons stemming from an injury he suffered in practice on Wednesday. UH coach Bob Nash said that Gibson will be re-evaluated for next Friday's game against Illinois.

Gibson, the team's starting point guard last season, averaged 10.2 points and 3.5 assists per game and has started 51 of 62 career games.
