Xcel Pro surf contest finals expected to run today

The Xcel Pro is on for today with the finals scheduled for this afternoon at Sunset Beach, according to the meet's Web site.A northwest swell with faces of 4 to 7 feet was reported this morning and was expected to increase through the afternoon. The final heat is scheduled for about 3:30 p.m.

The Xcel Pro is the only World Qualifying Series contest held on the North Shore before the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, which begins with the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Hale'iwa Alii Beach Park on Nov. 12.
