Man killed in hit-run on Nimitz identified

Advertiser Staff

John Jackson, 36, of Honolulu has been identified as the man killed early Saturday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in a van while he was hitching a motorcycle trailer to the back of a Mustang on Nimitz Highway near the airport.

Jackson died yesterday after being hit by the van that lost control and hit him, an 18-year-old man who was helping him, and a woman who was inside the Mustang, police said.

Police are searching for the unidentified driver of the van who ran away and failed to render aid to the injured people.

Also injured were the 18-year-old man and the woman passenger. Both men are from Hickam Air Force Base.

Their car was parked between Ohohia Street and Lagoon Drive to the right of the westbound side of the highway when the 3:40 a.m. accident happened Saturday.

Police have opened a hit-and-run investigation against the unidentified driver who was last seen running away from the gold 2002 Chevrolet van.

Speed is considered a factor, but it's not known if alcohol was involved. Police ask anyone with information to call 529-3499.

Jackson's cause of death is unknown, pending the results of an autopsy.
