Hundreds turn out for Punchbowl veterans ceremony

More than 500 people turned out under misty skies today to attend a Veterans Day ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).Veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf Wars were among those taking part in the ceremony "Honoring Those Who Served" at this mornings services.
The event was organized by the O'ahu Veterans Council, a non-profit organization made up of representatives from all veteran groups on O'ahu.
The U.S. Pacific Fleet Band played, the color guard presented their flags and the men and women who served came to pay their respects.
Lt. Gen. John Brown III, the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific gave the keynote speech. "There's another group here today that needs to be recognized," Brown said. "These are the people who have waited at home, cared for the children, cared for the community . . . ," Brown said. "There should be a day for them. Let's recognize the spouses."
