Trade winds likely to weaken throughtout new week

As refreshing as they have been, the trade winds will likely weaken today as a ridge of high pressure shifts southward and gets closer to the islands, according to the National Weather Service.

The trades will continue on the light sight for much of the upcoming week, forecasters said.

Windward and mauka area will likely see some shower activity when trade wind moisture brushes the islands, but overall rainfall amounts are expected to be on the light side.

Most leeward areas should stay rain free for the next several days.

Here's a closer look at what to expect:

Today, mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 80 to 85. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the southeast by late this morning. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 72. Northeast winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Monday, mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 80 to 85. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Monday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 72. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tuesday, mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 79 to 84. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tuesday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 72. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
