Maui County Council committee to review ag subdivisions

Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU – The regulation of agricultural subdivisions and agricultural tourism will be considered by the Maui County Council's Planning Committee in a meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Council Chamber, according to Committee Chair Gladys C. Baisa.

Baisa said the Committee will deliberate on Bill No. 76 (2002), which would require the Council to review agricultural subdivisions.

In addition, the Planning Committee will begin its examination of the County's Agricultural Zoning Ordinance, which has not been amended since its enactment in 1998.

The Planning Committee will also consider policy issues relating to agricultural tourism, including a review of a new law on the subject enacted by the State Legislature last year.

"Agriculture is a vital part of Maui County's past, present, and, I hope, future," Councilmember Baisa said. "The Council needs to take on these tough pending issues to ensure that ag lands are protected, for the benefit of our economy and our environment. I would be delighted to have the public share their ideas with the Committee."

The meeting is open to the public. Meeting agendas are available on the Planning Committee website. To receive meeting agendas via E-mail, please complete the online subscription form on the County website at www.mauicounty.gov. For more information, please contact the Planning Committee staff.
