POLICE BEAT
Police hold suspect in burglaries

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu police arrested a 19-year-old man who they say climbed over several apartment lanais early yesterday morning to burglarize two apartments where women were sleeping.

Police said the burglaries occurred in an apartment building in the 1400 block of Pi'ikoi Street about 5:30 in the morning.

In the first case, a 31-year-old woman awoke to find the suspect in her third-floor bedroom. She then watched as he looked in her purse, went through her clothing and left by climbing over a lanai railing.

Minutes later, a 19-year-old woman on the fourth floor of the building awoke to see a man entering her apartment through an open lanai door. When she jumped up and screamed, the man left through the front door of her apartment.

Police said they found the suspect in another third-floor apartment. He faces burglary charges.
