Niaulani Nature Walk, in Volcano, is a one-hour walk through an old-growth Hawaiian rainforest on an easy, half-mile loop trail. The walk is an introduction to the native plants and birds of the Big Island's Volcano area. Guides focus on the biological, ecological and geological features of the area, but also the cultural usages of flora and fauna by Native Hawaiians. Held at 9:30 a.m. Mondays, the weekly walk starts a mile from the entrance to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, across the highway at Volcano Art Center's Niaulani Campus, corner of Kalanikoa and Old Volcano Road.
