Young Brothers to bless new barge tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Young Bros. will hold a blessing for its newest interisland barge, the Ho'omaka Hou, at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at Honolulu Harbor's Pier 39.

This is the first of four new barges the company is welcoming over a two-year period as part of a $186 million capital investment announced last year.

The barge is the largest that Young Brothers owns, at 340 feet in length, 90 feet in width and 20 feet in depth. It is designed to handle the increasing volume of 40-foot containers used by customers, the company said.

Young Brothers said that as the new barges arrive, its older, smaller barges will be retired.
