Federal holiday shuts Hawaii offices, limits services

Here is what's open and closed today in connection with Veterans Day, a federal holiday:

State and county offices: Closed.

Federal offices: Closed.

Mail: All post offices closed; no business or residential delivery; no pick up from blue collection boxes; Express mail delivery to Honolulu addresses only.

Libraries: Closed — except for the Kaimuki branch, which will be open noon to 8 p.m. For information, visit www.librarieshawaii.org or call your local library.

TheBus: Operating on a Saturday schedule; except for The Boat and the F-series, feeder buses will be on a weekday schedule. Information: 848-5555.

Handi-Vans: Operating.

On-street parking: Free, except for metered stalls on Kalakaua Avenue along Kapi'olani Park; holiday tow-away zone parking as permitted by sign; meters in municipal lots must be fed.

Traffic: No coning.

Parks, recreation centers, municipal golf courses, botanical gardens and Honolulu Zoo: Open.

Trash: Regular rubbish pickup.

Landfills/refuse transfer stations: Open.

People's Open Markets: Closed.

Banks, including supermarket branches, will be closed.

Emergency ambulance, fire, lifeguard and police services will be available as usual.

The People's Open Markets will not be held.

City buses will operate on a Saturday schedule. Except for the TheBoat and the F-series (F2, F3, F11, F12, F13) feeder bus services which will operate their regular Weekday Schedule. Call 848-5555 for schedule information. The Handi-Vans will operate as usual.

Holiday traffic and parking regulations

These traffic and parking regulations will be in effect:

On-street parking will be free, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Kapi'olani Park.

Parking will be permitted in towaway zones that allow it on holidays.

There will be no coning of traffic lanes.

Traffic signals at Kalakaua Avenue and Kapi'olani Boulevard will be three-phase to permit mauka-bound traffic to turn left onto Kapi'olani Boulevard.

Motorists are reminded that parking in municipal lots with meters will not be free and that the meters must be fed 24 hours a day.
