Sheraton Maui workers set rally amid contract talks

Advertiser Staff

Union workers at the Sheraton Maui Resort hotel have scheduled a rally at the hotel Wednesday afternoon to encourage management to reach a settlement on a new contract.

About 325 members of UNITE HERE Local 5 have been working without a contract since it expired on June 30. Negotiations began earlier in the summer, but the employees are asking that a contract be reached soon.

The union said it wants a contract similar to ones covering Waikiki hotel workers. Union hotel workers at the Ala Moana Hotel and Waikiki Resort recently ratified new four-year deals, which the union said are on par with the Waikiki hotels.
