Kaua'i has been recognized as a StormReady and TsunamiReady community.

In a ceremony at the Kaua'i County Emergency Operating Center, Raymond Tanabe of the National Weather Service presented Mayor Bryan Baptiste with a certificate recognizing the honor.

The designation can help reduce rates under the National Flood Insurance Program.

It also can increase opportunities for the county to obtain grants that support disaster preparedness.
