Kapalua Resort to open 'adventure center' on Maui

Advertiser Staff

Kapalua Resort yesterday announced plans to open a Mountain Outpost and Adventure Center in January, with a portion of proceeds going to the Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve on Maui.

The new Mountain Outpost will feature a zipline system with eight dual-track ziplines, two suspension bridges, a comprehensive high ropes challenge course, and a four-station climbing tower. The eight ziplines span a total of two miles, with the longest zipline at 2,200 feet in length.

The center, scheduled to open on Jan. 7, has been designed to minimize impact to the natural environment.

The new Kapalua Adventures Mountain Outpost and Kapalua Adventure Center together will create 40 new jobs, the resort said.

Kapalua Resort has pledged 10 percent of the profits generated by the Adventure Center to the Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which is home to several of the world's rarest plants and insects, as well as a pristine tropical bog and delicate ecosystems.
