TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Nova: Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial," 8 p.m., PBS. Dover seems to be a pleasant Pennsylvania town of 1,800, near York. But a 2005 court case fanned rage on both sides. Under school board orders, students heard a statement that evolution is just a theory and that a school library book has an alternative theory. Parents sued, saying this slipped a religious concept, creationism, into school. Eighty years after the Scopes "monkey trial," evolution was back in court, with some surprises. This film offers re-enacted court scenes and long explanations. Still, it's at its best when the Dover people on both sides tell their story. They seem strong, solid, soft-spoken and in total disagreement.

"Michigan vs. Ohio State: The Rivalry," 8:30 p.m., HBO. This football rivalry ripples with venom, despair and humor. A terrific documentary ranges from fans to the two late coaching giants, Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler.

OF NOTE

"The Biggest Loser," 7 p.m., NBC. Contestants are tempted by doughnuts. Also, they're allowed to pay surprise visits back home for 24 hours.

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. A woman searches for her husband, an African refugee.

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. When a body is found in a time capsule, the team investigates the victim's long-ago classmates.

"Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" (2004), 8 p.m., Disney Channel. Yes, cable still obsesses on Lindsay Lohan movies. In this one, she's moving from New York to New Jersey suburbia, where she finds a friend and a snobbish enemy.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. Two things could distract Dr. House, during a difficult case — a camera crew and his second thoughts about his decisions in choosing staff members.

"The Unit," 8 p.m., CBS. The team is dealing with the death of Williams. Meanwhile, Jonas wants revenge.

"Nip/Tuck," 8 p.m., FX. Last week, Sean was startled to learn that his ex-wife (played by Joely Richardson) had a female lover (Portia de Rossi). Now we learn more about the overall family; we also learn about Kate (Paula Marshall), the insecure actress Sean is dating.

"Cane," 9 p.m., CBS. Alex learns Frank has gambling debts that endanger the business.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. When a girl is found in the trunk of a car, the search leads to a schizophrenic artist.

"Independent Lens: Navajo Nation," 10 p.m., PBS. Miss Navajo Nation isn't your simple, shallow pageant. Yes, contestants must be beautiful; they also must answer questions in Navajo and show skill in rug-weaving, bread-making and sheep-butchering. This film follows Crystal Frazier, 21, an introvert who isn't fluent in the language; it also visits past winners.
