So, grasshopper, if you think you are worthy, the University of Hawai'i Academy for Creative Media will host open auditions 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30 for Caine, the lead character in the upcoming big-screen remake of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu." The open call will be in Crawford Hall Room 115 on the university's Manoa campus. Legendary Pictures is looking for a male actor of Asian or mixed Asian descent between the ages of 25 and 35.

In the original "Kung Fu," the hapa-Chinese character played by David Carradine wound up in the old West, where he preached nonviolence while kicking the snot out of anyone who provoked him. For the open call, you will need to demonstrate your martial arts abilities. However, lifting a cauldron full of hot coals with your forearms will not be required. TELL US FAMILY PLANS FOR HOLIDAYS

What does your family always do during the holidays — whether Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa? Do you share dinner at the beach or cut down your own Christmas tree? These stories make delightful reading, and The Advertiser Island Life section would like to tell them.

Send us a paragraph — two at most — about something that makes your family unique. We'll publish these in December. Mark it "Traditions" and e-mail to islandlife@honoluluadvertiser.com; mail to Island Life, Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802; or fax 525-8055.

FINAL WORD

"I'm 39 now. I don't look like I did 10 years ago, I dress differently — and I don't sing the same. I have more edge and felt like doing something different."
