Honolulu Community College will celebrate makahiki today with native Hawaiian games.

In ancient Hawai'i, the makahiki season ran from late October to early March and was designated as a time to celebrate a successful harvest.

The makahiki celebration at the HCC campus will run from noon to 1 p.m. on the lawn near the Berlin Wall Monument.

Cultural expert La'akea Suganuma will demonstrate makahiki games and ask attendees to participate.

The event is sponsored by the Native Hawaiian Center.
