Honolulu Christmas tree to be harvested today

Advertiser Staff

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Thanksgiving is still around the corner.

The city festivities are kicking off today with the harvesting of the city's Christmas tree that will be planted at Honolulu Hale at 10 a.m. Friday.

This year's tree was a foot tall when it was planted in 1983 in Mililani by a family in memory of their daughter who died around that time.

Today, the tree is 70 feet tall.

The special tree will be on display for the city and its visitors to share starting Friday.

Today, it's harvest time with the blessing of families who know the story of the tree and the people who grew up around it.
