Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are asking the public's assistance in locating a 44-year-old man in connection with a home invasion extortion attempt at a Downtown Hilo apartment building.

Police said they responded to a burglary Saturday morning and determined that a 48 year-old male was confronted within his apartment by an intruder known to him. The victim is said to have been held against his will, assaulted and threatened while within the apartment. Part of the threats involved an extortion attempt by the suspect.

Police are seeking 44 year-old David Scott Paulino, also known as "Scotty," for questioning in connection with this investigation. He is described as 5-foot-4, 145 pounds, with a stocky build, brown hair and hazel eyes.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding Paulino's whereabouts to contact Detective Robert Hatton of the Department's Criminal Investigation Section at 808-961-2380 or the Police Department's nonemergency number at 808-935-3311.
