42 arrested for DUI on Big Island last week

From Nov. 6 to Nov. 12, Big Island police arrested 42 motorists for drunk driving to bring this year's DUI arrest total on the Big Island to 1,170, up 8 percent from last year at this time.Fifteen of the drivers arrested last week were involved in a traffic crash and two were under the age of 21.
Big Island police also said there have been 1,828 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,142 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.
So far this year, there have been 35 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 30 during the same period last year, an increase of 17 percent.
